We really enjoyed this museum on a rainy day in the city. The video is spectacular to learn about the history and lots of fun facts. The exhibits have some artifacts and a lot of reading. The top floor currently has the gingerbread bake off which is fun. There are some cute gifts in the shop. The line at the cafe was long when we tried to stop twice, so we passed on it. Would recommend!

Cool museum to learn about the history of New York. Groupon deal was great, bought the voucher while standing outside the museum and was able to enter immediately.

About Museum of the City of New York

Located on Fifth Avenue, the Museum of the City of New York, housed in a newly renovated Georgian Colonial-Revival building, is a nonprofit museum that hosts temporary exhibitions to complement extensive permanent collections.

  • Neighborhood: The landmark building can be found on Fifth Avenue and 103rd Street, at the southern end of East Harlem and just across the street from Central Park’s Conservatory Garden.
  • Don't Miss: New York at Its Core, an ongoing exhibit that showcases the city's storied past and possible futures through hundreds of objects and photos and contemporary video, and interactive experiences. The exhibit shines a light on generations of American Dreamers—whether they were tycoons, immigrants, builders, or politicians (or all of the above.)
  • Watch for: Timescapes, an award-winning multi-media 28-minute documentary that delves into the city's evolution since its establishment, concluding with a capture of the city's transformations over the first two decades of the 21st century.
  • Grab a bite: The Museum's Chalsty's Cafe overlooks Central Park for a perfect view, whether the park is blanketed in snow or covered in autumn colors.
