About Museum of the City of New York

Located at the top of Museum Mile on Fifth Avenue, the Museum of the City of New York fosters an understanding of local urban culture and life through an array of exhibitions, interactive programs, publications, and other media centered around one of the world's most influential cities. Housed in a newly renovated Georgian Colonial-Revival building, the nonprofit museum hosts temporary exhibitions to complement extensive permanent collections. Hallways and gallery spaces invite guests inside to study historic maps, photographs of life and architecture, and artwork, as well as vintage displays gathering toys, fashion, and furniture—providing more insight into the city's rich character than the diary of Al Pacino. A gift shop allows visitors to bring home a taste of the Big Apple via city-spirited books, clothing, posters, music, films, and handmade goods.

• Neighborhood: The landmark building can be found on Fifth Avenue and 103rd Street, at the southern end of East Harlem and just across the street from Central Park’s Conservatory Garden.
• Don't Miss: New York at Its Core, an ongoing exhibit that showcases the city's storied past and possible futures through hundreds of objects and photos, along with contemporary video and interactive experiences. The exhibit shines a light on generations of American Dreamers—whether they were tycoons, immigrants, builders, or politicians (or all of the above.)
• Watch for: Timescapes, an award-winning multi-media 28-minute documentary that delves into the evolution of the city since its establishment, concluding with a capture of the city's transformations over the first two decades of the 21st century.
• Grab a bite: The Museum's Chalsty's Cafe overlooks Central Park for a perfect view, whether the park is blanketed in snow or covered in autumn colors.
