The Room is quite possibly the worst film of all time, and therefore quite possibly the funniest. Called “the Citizen Kane of bad movies” by Entertainment Weekly, The Room is the brainchild of actor, writer, director, producer and executive producer Tommy Wiseau. The film tells the tawdry tale of a love triangle between a man, his fiancée and his best friend. Whether the film is indeed a black comedy or a drama is up for debate, but either way, the audience wins. The film first developed a cult following in Los Angeles, where a devoted group of fans including celebrities Paul Rudd and Kristen Bell helped make the film a phenomenon in the vein of Rocky Horror, complete with audience participation. It has gone on to become a cult hit around the world, and now it’s coming to Chicago. See what the hype is all about at Music Box Theatre’s midnight screening.
