Asia's most celebrated contemporary dance company, Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan, celebrates its 40th anniversary while making its L.A. Music Center debut. Their magical performance celebrates the life cycle and natural beauty of the island's essential crop: rice. Against a stunning video backdrop showcasing the vistas of the Chihshang growing region, 24 dancers combine modern dance and martial arts, ballet and qigong to become wind-rippled paddies, erotic agents of springtime germination and fire walkers returning scorched seed to soil. With bamboo sticks symbolizing field implement, slender stalk and weapon, they prod the seasons and coax valley rains as the sounds of Taiwanese folk songs and Bellini arias waft in the wind at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.
Please note, this performance contains mature content and partial perceived nudity; it is recommended for audiences ages 12 and up.
Running time is 70 minutes with no intermission.
