Murder is cheaper than ever! With today's Groupon, Mystery Café is offering select June Murder Mystery shows for just $29 (42% off the normal $49.95 price). Founded in 1986, Mystery Café is America's first and original murder mystery dinner theater. You've heard about murder on television, now is your chance to see it live while eating a great meal! The Mystery Café combines mystery, music, audience participation, food, and fun. Plus, you can finally have that annoying friend of yours murdered while entertaining the friends you like.

Your Groupon covers the cost of the performance, a three-course dinner, and tax. Choose between two blood-soaked shows: "Major League Murder" at Elephant & Castle, 161 Devonshire St. in the Club Quarters Hotel, or "The Mobfather" at Riccardo's Ristorante, 175 North St. in the North End. Shows start at 7:30 p.m. and last about 2.5 hours.

At “Major League Murder,” you don’t get to kill one of the Yankees, but you do get a choice of chicken or pasta (just email them your preference in advance). Boston Green Monsters pitcher Roger Lemons is ready to make a comeback, but in the middle of the celebration there's a murder. (Special guest emcee Brian McNamee not guaranteed.)

At "The Mobfather," you’ll attend the 40th birthday of the Boston Mafia’s boss, but you won't leave until the murder is solved and the family honor is restored. It's an offer you can't refuse unless your credit card is declined. Check out the event description and the family-style buffet dinner menu (your choice of eggplant rollitini, chicken parmagiana, or homemade pasta, plus a starter salad and a cannoli dessert).

  • "The show goes on all around the room where we were seated for dinner...Some of my friends tried to really figure out the mystery together and actually solved it...If you're looking for something fun and different to do this gives you food, entertainment and the opportunity to continue the evening like we did with the E&C's Saturday night karaoke upstairs. Saw they had some habor [sic] cruises coming up and wil [sic] probably go to one." – Fred H., Yelp
  • "in [sic] Boston's North End was a great show for my whole family including my 8 year old son. The piano player was great, the actors and food, perfect. I would go again." – BostonRox, Parents Connect

About Mystery Café

It's one thing to sit down to a perfectly nice three-course meal, surrounded by your close friends and loved ones. It's quite another thing to sit down to the same meal surrounded not only by your friends, but by a slew of shifty-eyed murder suspects. Such is the situation guests find themselves in at Mystery Café, America's original murder mystery dinner theater.

Like the perfect crime, the idea behind Mystery Café is equal parts simple and brilliant. The line between dinner guest and audience member is blurred as a crew of potential murders attempts to evade suspicion by serving a delicious three-course meal. All the while, guests answer a series of questions based on their observations; at the end of the meal, the individual with the most correct answers wins.

Popular though it may be, the mystery dinner is only one of several gut-busting comedy acts sponsored by Mystery Café. Another is ComedySportz Boston, a lightning-fast improv competition in which two teams vie for points by playing in a series of goofy improv games. Regularly held at the Davis Square Theatre in Somerville, ComedySportz has all the elements you'd look for in a more traditional sport: breakneck speed, a rowdy audience, and a referee who governs the action and decides if the losers get to live.
