I purchased the groupon for a shipment containing six bottles of red wine. Upon opening my shipment, I received five bottles of red wine and one bottle of white wine by mistake. I called and the customer service representative apologized and said she'd send me a bottle of red that was not included in the shipment. It took over a week to receive an email from her containing the tracking information for the replacement bottle. The following week I received the replacement bottle and it's one of the same wines included in the initial shipment.
Of the three wines I've tried so far I am not impressed. I honestly think the Black Box Cab Sauv and Botabox Redvolution, around $15 each, (contains four bottles of wine) are much better quality than any of the NYT Wine Club wines I've tried so far. It looks as though they send one half-decent bottle of wine per shipment and use lower quality wines to supplement the cost of sending one nice bottle.
When I called recently to cancel my membership, the customer service rep wouldn't take no for an answer. He said he would apply a $20 credit on a future shipment and free shipping (only applies to an order of 6 bottles or more, not the 2 bottle option). He kindly sent me the bottle of Rioja that was supposed to have been included in the initial shipment.
Even with a $20 credit and free shipping I still don't think it's worth $70 for six mediocre bottles of wine I probably won't drink based on my experience so far.
This is the third wine club I've tried out and it seems like a great deal for the groupon price, but by far these are the lowest quality wines I've received from a wine club.
I got this as a Xmas gift for my husband, a wine connoisseur. He wasn't very impressed with the wine selection -perhaps expecting more Merlot from Europe and less Chianti from the US- but overall he enjoys it. It is a good gift and the ability to adjust your quarterly amounts is is very convenient. I recommend it.
I ordered six bottles but only five arrived in the shipment. They did ship the last bottle to me. But I still don't understand how they could make such mistake. Also, I chose the plan to have two bottles sent to me every three months. But they already charged me for the next shipment after less than a month!! And it's painful to cancel membership!
