Please click here and scroll to the bottom of the page for a complete list of valid treatment areas, broken down by size. They do not have an option for the full legs, but the lower legs are group III and upper legs are group V.

Q:

How likely is blistering to darker African American skin during the procedure and if blistering occurs, how likely is scaring?

Richard B.  asked on  Aug 19, 2013

A:

First, make sure you are being treated by a qualified certified practitioner, a doctor, P.A., or a C.E. with certification in laser hair removal. I have seen LOTS of complications when this was not followed, and people went for the bargain. When done in the wrong hands or on the wrong candidate, permanent scarring may occur. Blistering only occurs after a "poor" laser treatment. Testing a skin "spot" first and reading their medical information is always the best option.

Q:

How well would a darker skinned African American qualify for laser hair removal?

Richard B.  asked on  Aug 19, 2013

A:

With darker skin types, the best laser for hair reduction is the Nd:YAG 1064. I have used the Cutera CoolGlide Nd:YAG 1064; it consistently treats safely and effectively. The laser hair reduction treatments should help with the ingrown hairs as well.

Q:

Just wondering if your laser works on fine blonde hair as I know many of them do not.

Jennifer K.  asked on  Aug 15, 2013

A:

Unfortunately, as someone with blonde, fine hair, you are not a good candidate for laser hair removal. Laser hair removal works when the pigment (color) in the hair absorbs the light energy of the laser. This in turn heats up the hair and causes the small blood vessel that feeds the hair to close. Without blood flow, the hair cannot regrow. The problem with fine colorless hair is that it does not absorb the light energy of the laser. Instead of the light and heat being absorbed by the hair, it is absorbed in the surrounding skin. Because the light energy is not concentrated in the hair follicle, the blood vessel remains intact and the hair will still grow. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but unless your hair has some color, you will probably be disappointed with the results of laser hair removal. Thank you for the question, hope it was helpful.
