Q:

I bought the $29 value star, but it seems like it is saying that 49.90 I may owe? What is this price for? or is it just telling the totoal discount after the promotion code?

Danielle W.  asked on  Feb 13, 2013

A:

Danielle, chances are that your placed an order for the incorrect product and that the number you see is actually a credit. Please make sure to follow the instructions provided on your Groupon, click on the link corresponding to the product for which you purchased your code and that you place the order for the correct product.

Q:

Do you share a star with anyone else? I want to buy one as a gift but want to be sure this star is now also owned by hundreds of other people as well. Thanks.

Adele T.  asked on  Feb 7, 2013

A:

No, we do not share our stars with anyone else and we associate only one name next to each star. Naming a star has been for centuries and across cultures a symbolic gesture, a way to express our feelings for somebody, commemorate an event, celebrate special moments in life (weddings, birthdays, graduations). It is a common occurrence that a particular star is being named differently by different civilizations. Currently, the same star can be listed in different astronomical catalogs, each time with a different number. Different name-a-star companies can name the same star differently. Again, naming a star is a symbolic gesture but only Name A Star Live makes it 'real' when we include your participation in a real space mission, astronomy software to entertain and educate about space and space exploration, informative articles about space and astronomy in our newsletters. Additional information about how stars are named can be found in our Name A Star Live blog and FAQ section.

Q:

I would like to order this for my husband who recently lost his mother and brother. I would like the stars to be in the same consellation. Could this be accomplished by buying one of each or is this a special circumstance not available with this Groupon?

Vicky  asked on  Feb 8, 2013

A:

Yes, you can purchase one Groupon for each product. When you register the stars you need to make sure to select the same constellation and if you register the stars one after the other chances are that they will be located close to each other.

Q:

Are the star names we choose, recognized by NASA or other national and international astonomy organizations? Do these organizations have their own names for specific stars mapped in our galaxy already (ex: star I choose is named "CGF-4", but to me and my loved ones, it is "Ralph?"), and the names we choose are symbolic? To have the names recognized on known star charts, theywould need to be done through the scientific community?

p. s.  asked on  Feb 10, 2013

A:

Naming a star has been for centuries and across cultures a symbolic gesture, a way to express our feelings for somebody, commemorate an event, celebrate special moments in life (weddings, birthdays, graduations). There is no single organization, scientific or governmental, that is recognized internationally that can claim to keep a record of all stars in the universe and the right to name them. Only Name A Star Live makes it 'real' when we include your participation in a real space mission, astronomy software to entertain and educate about space and space exploration, informative articles about space and astronomy in our newsletters. Very rarely astronomical bodies and events are given proper names, of the discoverer. With other words, only recognized scientists and astronomers get to have their work recognized if they discover something new and that is done my International Astronomical Union. Additional information about how stars are named can be found in our Name A Star Live blog and FAQ section.

Q:

Hi, this may sound dumb as hell and i do apologize for that in the beginning. I do want to purchase this for my fiancee for Vday and get a telescope for her as well. ANYWAYS, we live in the western hemisphere if im not mistaken (Granada Hills, CA 91344) will we be able to see the star? From what i read with the other questions, its visible from the northern hemisphere. And if its still view-able from where we live, whats the optimum constellation to choose from? thank you for your time and patience!!

Justin D.  asked on  Feb 11, 2013

A:

Justin, all stars included in our database are visible from the northern hemisphere, including California. You can choose any constellation you want, be it a zodiacal constellation or perhaps Andromeda-- which in the Greek mythology was known for her beauty. Cygnus constellation represents a swan, while Orion is a hunter but easy to recognize in the sky. Our FAQ section provides information on when various constellations are visible from your area and advise on which telescope to purchase. http://www.nameastarlive.com/faq.asp

Q:

Is the package taht comes with the $29 one specific in some way or can it be used for any named star?

linda w.  asked on  Feb 4, 2013

A:

Linda, the software is helpful to find out when the constellation is visible in your area. You cannot use it to view a particular star. Our FAQ section has recommendations on how you can view a particular star.

Q:

I would like to buy 2 one for each of my kids. Is the software that comes with the $29 package, general or specific? Essentially i want to know if I should get one $14 and q$29 package and tehy can both use the info in the $29 pack.

linda w.  asked on  Feb 4, 2013

A:

Linda, the software is full of interesting information about space, exploration, astronomy. Both children can use the same license even if it is installed on separate computers. With other words, you could order one of each gift set but the more expensive package comes with an astrophoto (custom photo of the constellation) in addition to the software. The less expensive version does not include the astrophoto nor the software.
