When based in an environment rooted in support and self-improvement, many teenagers have the chance to hone decision-making skills, develop healthy life choices, and discover their potential for positive impact. But for teenagers without access to this kind of support, forces such as alcohol, tobacco, and drug abuse can creep in, negatively impacting their lives and their communities. Operation Snowball, a program of NCO Youth & Family Services, looks to combat these negative environmental influencers via its award-winning substance-abuse prevention and leadership development program for teens. The Naperville Operation Snowball Chapter of Operation Snowball—commonly known as just Snowball—offers three weekend retreats a year, with 225 teens and another 40 adult volunteers in attendance at each event. At these retreats, teens split off into small groups and participate in workshops and fun activities aimed at talking about what it's like to be a teenager and how teenagers can positively impact themselves and their peers.
Recent state funding cuts, coupled with a drop in private donations to the organization, has left Snowball requiring $175 from each participant to attend. Additionally, the adult volunteers who already commit their time to Snowball are now required to contribute financially to the program in order to keep it afloat. Despite these budgetary concerns, the program is still in high demand; just this past fall, more than 200 interested applicants were left on the waiting list.
Join G-Team and donate $10 to help sponsor at least five local teens for the next Snowball retreat. Every $175 raised will cover the registration fee for one teen who otherwise could not afford to attend this life-changing three-day retreat, held at Camp Henry Horner. The fee includes transportation, lodging, food, a t-shirt, workshops, and large group presentations.
Unlike traditional Groupon deals, G-Team campaigns typically don't offer you a "discount" or "savings." So "buyer" beware—when you click "Buy" to donate your time or money to a worthwhile G-Team cause, the only discount you may receive is 100% off free, priceless karma. Read more about G-Team.

About Naperville Operation Snowball Chapter
The Naperville chapter of Operation Snowball, a program of 360 Youth Services, operates under the notion that a simple message can spread and gain force organically through a community. Its programs focus on drug use, problem solving, and peer support for high-school students, both informing and empowering participants to create a change in their schools. Operation Snowball hosts three weekend retreats a year, with 225 teens and 40 adult volunteers in attendance at each. The retreats aim to prevent substance abuse and develop responsible decision-making skills. In small groups, teens participate in workshops and fun activities that range from reliving kindergarten and exploring mazes to dealing with grief. Friday night features a "no-talent" show to break the ice, and sessions of free time help youth learn about each other on their own terms.
