Trains have played a major role in America’s past, transporting people and goods west and gold and Big Feet east. Ride the rails of history with today’s Groupon: for $10, you get two all-day adult tickets for train rides and admission to the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Museum (a $20 value).

The Narrow Gauge Railroad train ride takes guests on a 35- to 40-minute adventure in an antique 1846 railcar scooting along the restored 2-foot track. From the plush, velvety seats, visitors can peer at the abundance of sights, such as the 1875 Portland breakwater lighthouse and the elusive Frankenmoose, while listening to factual orations by the conductor or guest docent. After ingesting the panoramic Casco Bay from the tassel-framed glass windows, riders can peruse the past in the museum, which collects informative displays, historic railcars and interactive conductors.

Customer Reviews

I took my two young grandsons, ages 2 & 4, and they loved the small scale train in the museum and the train ride. My husband and I also enjoyed the ride, as we sat on the ocean side of the open-air car. However, it would be great if the land side of the ride was cleaned up. I've seen derogatory comments on tripadvisor.com about the debris and junk.
