Hockey is like the magnificent mutt of the sporting world. You get the speed of lacrosse, the grace of ribbon gymnastics, and the utter brutality of golf all combined in one action-packed event. See this wondersport in action with today's deal: for $37 you get one club-level seat to see the Nashville Predators take on either the Phoenix Coyotes on February 2 at 7 p.m. or the Colorado Avalanche on February 4 at 7 p.m, a $64 value (including tax).

Exchanging your Groupon for your tickets is easier than getting a clown to eat free bread. Just purchase one for each member of your group of hockey hooligans (purposely coming up one short to exclude an unsavory stepmother is commendable but ill-advised). Multiples purchased on the same card will reserve a block of seats next to each other. Your hard tickets should be waiting for you in an envelope at The Sommet Center's box office on game day, but to be sure, call ahead to double check. Seats will be in the club-level sections 201–202 and 223–224.

The Predators, Avalanche, and Coyotes all have good records and above-average point totals. Both competitors have the unfortunate luck of being in the same conference as the Predators. Led defensively by future Olympian Ryan Suter, the Predators are looking to get back into the post season after last year's narrow miss. As the 2009–10 season winds down and enters the defining third period, these three teams will be battling it out for their share of eight playoff spots. Spots are unrigged, but the home-rink advantage in Nashville's back pocket should be enough to tilt the ice in their favor—that is, with the help of raucous fans and the occasional hockey-playing bear.

People who review sports teams on the Internet notoriously love the Nashville Predators and Sommet Center. Ticketmaster users give the team a 4.5-star rating, while three Citysearchers rate the team-venue combo a solid five stars:

  • I went to the game knowing that I would have a good time. This was my 7th game this year and I absolutely love the whole experience. The atmosphere is just wonderful and the other fans are the best. The game well its hockey and it speaks for itself....IT ROCKS!!!!! Anyone thinking about going to a game, definately [sic] needs to just DO IT!!! – SullyFan, Ticketmaster
  • The building also offers superb sight lines, and fans of the Predators…get ample opportunity to rock the house. – Contributor, Citysearch
  • The GEC is a nice venue for music or sports. I've seen numerous perfomances and sporting events and am yet to be disappointed in the venue. Great location right on lower broad. So much better than if it was placed out in the burbs. – PatrickRains, Citysearch
