What You'll Get
What happens when crazed baseball fans try to tear down your sculpture? This was just one of the potential issues that the creatives behind Snarkitecture had to consider when installing giant letters outside Marlins Ballpark in Florida. Hurricanes were also a big concern. The Brooklyn-based collaborative practice is known for reinterpreting existing materials to reveal new ideas about architecture, and other projects have included an “ocean” made of nearly one million translucent balls and caves dug out of foam. Along the way, they’ve collaborated with musicians such as Chromeo and fashion designers such as Richard Chai and En Noi. Founding principal Alex Mustonen and senior associate Benjamin Porto will discuss the group’s work at D.C.’s National Building Museum in the lecture Spotlight on Design: Snarkitecture. Be prepared to be challenged and enlightened.
