This first-ever festival of its kind in the Twin Cities features three full-length works by local Arab-American theater artists, staged at Minneapolis’ Mixed Blood Theatre. Kathryn Haddad’s Road to the City of Apples follows a pair of undocumented Palestinians as they travel to Wisconsin in search of the American dream, only to find an ever-shifting palette of cultural norms. The one-woman comedy-drama In Algeria They Know My Name finds the Minnesota-raised Taous Claire Khazem arriving in her father’s homeland, where she happens to fall in love with an Algerian clown. And speaking of clowns, A Clown in Exile tracks Mohammed Yabdri’s feelings of cultural inferiority as he looks for a place to call home.
