What You'll Get
Until farmers' markets were invented, mankind had to trust dicey vendors whose wares were either overripe or caused humanity's expulsion from paradise. Enjoy a more fruitful way to obtain fruitage with today's Groupon: for $10, you get $20 worth of goods and produce (redeem for four $5 gift certificates) at New Castle Farmers Market. New Castle Farmers Market is open Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
First opened in 1954, New Castle Farmers Market currently houses more than 70 vendors at a time, peddling fresh produce, authentic foreign cuisines, handcrafted apparel and house wares. In the bustling, 100,000-square-foot bazaar, fruit enthusiasts can feast eyes or echolocating shrieks on golden pineapple ($2.99), bananas ($0.49/lb.), and Granny Smith apples ($.99/lb.) from Lee's and New Castle Produce. The Sticky Bunz Bakery helps sweet teeth actualize with elephant ears ($1.85), long johns ($0.99), and donuts ($4.75 for six), while meat-needing tummies will gravitate toward Bylers BBQ, which stocks baby-back ribs ($7.99/lb.) and beef pot roast ($6.49/lb.).
Elsewhere, other owner-operated vendors proffer live crab and fresh fish, bulk candy and nuts, fresh flowers, artisanal juices, and mounds of delectable Pennsylvania Dutch goods. Visitors can also venture outdoors, where more than 200 additional vendors brave the elements and falcon defalcators in an outdoor flea market.
