Classical music's always presented in exciting, innovative ways when played by the New Century Chamber Orchestra. This conductorless ensemble, a collaborative effort between 19 musicians, plays music from the classical canon while commissioning new work and delivering pieces from genres like folk and rock. In their newest show, Hope for Menuhin, world-renowned violinist Daniel Hope steps in as Guest Concertmaster for a program of diverse works paying tribute to the late, great violinist Yehudi Menuhin. This salute includes a Bach piece known as one the very best works of the Baroque period, his Concerto in D Minor for Two Violins, Strings and Basso Continuo. You'll also hear Mendelssohn's Concerto in D Minor for Violin and Strings, one of the Romantic master's finest creations, along with Phillip Glass' Echorus, Bartok's Six Romanian Folk Dances, Nostalgia for Solo Violin and Strings by Takemitsu and more. Experience the NCCO at San Francisco's Herbst Theatre.
