At the dawn of the world, everyone rock-climb commuted to work. It was only after the invention of falling, however, that rock climbing became thrilling, sexy, and glamorous. Live the life of a rock star with today's Groupon at New Heights Rock Climbing Gym on East Avenue. Choose between two options:
- For $75, you get a climbing party for up to 10 people (up to a $150 value).
- For $49, you get one ropes safety course and five one-day passes, which include harness rentals (a $100 value).
At New Heights Rock Climbing Gym, frisky fingers can grip slopers, pinches, and pockets to hoist their attached meat-cases up a climbing wall riddled with tape-marked trails of varying difficulty. Communal climbers can attend a party where an experienced instructor will train up to ten friends in the art of indoor alpinism. Additional partygoers can get their climb on for $15 each. During the top ropes safety course offered five times a week, neophytes learn how to spot other climbers in case of a fall or a surprise attack by carabineer demons. Afterward, climbers are ready to go solo, and with today's deal, they can return to the gym for five day-long sprees of wall-scaling. Since every climber needs a partner to spot them, this is a great activity for even-numbered groups—romantic rock risers can even purchase an extra Groupon for a soon-to-be more-than-friend. New Heights Rock Climbing Gym is closed Mondays.
New Heights Rock Climbing Gym
Safety comes first at New Heights Rock Climbing Gym. Before strapping in at the gym’s top-rope climbing course, all guests have to complete a training lesson that teaches them the skills needed to safely surmount the gym’s walls. Students learn how to tie weight-bearing knots, help friends safely ascend and descend the walls using belaying techniques, and recognize the difference between rocks and Styrofoam coolers that just look like rocks. Once instructors deem them ready, students can then latch onto the colorful rocks sprinkled throughout the climbing space, using their upper-arm strength and path-finding skills to surmount the vertical obstacle course. The angled bouldering course rises over padded mats, allowing guests to safely climb the inclines while working against gravity pulling down their own body weight. The gym opens its doors to parties of all sizes, with one designated instructor for every eight partygoers to ensure climbers stay safe and agile.
