New Jersey Vietnam Veterans' Memorial

The New Jersey Vietnam Veterans' Memorial shines a light on both the emotional impact of the Vietnam War and its political, cultural, and historical context. Serving as a testament to the cost of war is the outdoor memorial, designed by architect Hien Nguyen, who was forced to flee South Vietnam in 1975. Its black granite Wall of Names is etched with tributes to the New Jerseyans who never returned home, while statues and gardens present visitors with space to reflect.

The Vietnam Era Museum & Educational Center features documents, artifacts, and multimedia explorations of one of the most complex events in history. Inside, visitors can stroll through a historical timeline complete with touchscreen computers that offer an interactive education, or browse the Circle of Letters to experience the war from the perspective of soldiers and their families. Temporary exhibits, which often include art by or about service members, change 3–4 times a year.

Definitely consider visiting the NJ Vietnam Veterans Memorial, which is within an easy drive on the Garden State parkway from most areas of New Jersey (exit 116). I visited the outside memorial, did not get a chance to visit the museum. It is sad to see the names of every service person... Read More
