New Orleans Paint N Party explores the social side of art-making with convivial, educational soirees. Seasoned local artists welcome prospective Picassos and celebrity finger-painters alike into a festive, inviting, and BYOB-friendly studio for step-by-step instruction in creating their own NOLA-themed masterworks. The studio ponies up all the essential tools, such as paint, brushes, and a 16"x20" prestretched canvas. During each party, instructors carefully guide students through the conception of one painting of preselected Big Easy imagery. Past fetes have tackled cityscapes and local cuisine, and attendees of the upcoming February 18 session will render their own hangable versions of a classic New Orleans icon, the Fleur De Lis streetcar. Napkins, ice buckets, wine openers, child princes biting into wax fruit, and other famous artistic aids also supplement the flow of creative juices during the class.
Carefully arranged rows of easels line the clean and cozy white-walled studio space, prepared to accommodate creative impulses. Each class is limited to 30 participants, allowing for individualized attention from instructors. After daubing the final strokes, maestros take their finished works home to mount onto refrigerators or conceal smaller refrigerators.
Ages 15 and up welcome; minors must be accompanied by an adult. Reservations required. Well-lit off-street parking is available.

"What do you want to create?" That is the question posed to each of New Orleans Paint N Party's visitors. During the studio's energetic parties, local artists teach visitors to put brush on canvas, creating colorful projects such as streetcars and city skylines. The staff keeps it simple. They greet each visitor with a presketched canvas and a trove of supplies, including brushes and paints. New Orleans Paint N Party also invites its customers to bring along food and potable beverages; they'll even supply the wine opener, ice bucket, ice pick, and drinking glasses.
