Wonderful couple of hours on the water. Easier to do that I thought. Highly recommended.

Most of us in our group had never tried paddle boarding before, and told the guide that. Lesson was maybe 60 seconds max on how to do this (versus a 10 minute lesson that we heard in Hawaii watching someone else). My husband fell 2 minutes into the paddle, and several times more. Did not really hear any tips from the guide on technique. Overall, though, we had fun with the new experience.

What You'll Get

Standup paddleboarding was invented when an impatient surfer brought out a weapon to beat the waveless ocean into compliance. Enjoy the calm he accidentally discovered with this Groupon.

Tour guides meet patrons along the Indian River, introduce them to the basics of paddleboarding, and then set out on guided tours of the river. During lessons, instructors teach students proper foot placement, board control, how to turn, and how to out-sing sirens. Next, groups traverse the scenic mangrove-lined Indian River, serenely gliding across the tranquil waters. Sunset tours entice romantic paddlers as they glide atop the crystal waters, watching the sun’s leisurely descent cast a cascade of reds and golds onto the waves. A light picnic of wine and cheese sets the scene as guests lounge on the shore, admiring marine mammals and birds. After each outing, New Smyrna Stand Up’s resident photographer posts paddling photos taken that day in a Facebook album. </p>

About New Smyrna Stand Up

For years, New Smyrna residents have paddled throughout the marshy backwaters of the Indian River lagoon, finding solace among the area's gentle tides, unclouded skies, and abundance of marine life. United by a respect for their natural surroundings and a knack for paddleboarding, a local family joined forces to form the award-winning New Smyrna Stand Up. With dolphins and manatees swimming below and ospreys sailing above, the experienced guides lead tours down the river, journeying out into the ocean when weather permits. In the summer months, the center conducts children's camps, in which youngsters learn paddleboarding techniques while exploring the area's ecosystem. They study local wildlife and marine creatures and learn to identify the origins of passing inner-tubers by the shape of their heads. In addition to tours and camps, the staff offers paddleboard rentals and standup-paddleboard surfing lessons.
