Our visit to the NYC Historical Society was great. There is a wonderful Tiffany lamp collection, excellent art works and thoughtful depictions of race relations and Women’s sufferance memorabilia. We also enjoyed standing in the replica of the White House Oval Office.

A true gem of a museum with a variety of collections, including among many other things, tiffany lamps, silver, toys, women's rights, civil rights, and historic New York.

Entry to several places were forbidden due to the wedding event. Nobody informed that before entering the museum. Not a problem of Groupon, but not that preasant experience.

This was my first time at the museum and I loved all the artifacts. It was small enough to get through the museum in 2 to 4 hours depending on how much detail one wanted to take in. The theater was immense and the movies (15 to 20 minutes were really well done. My only slight disappointment was that the Frederick Douglas and woman's movement exhibits were smaller than I'd hoped. But Overall I really liked it.

About New-York Historical Society

A trip to New York would not be complete without a visit to the New-York Historical Society with its four centuries of history and art – and the only Children’s History Museum in the area. It hits the spot for anyone craving an offbeat (and often surprising) bite of the city’s culture easily digested in an hour or two.

  • Great Start: New York Story, an 18-minute panoramic film experience on a 75-foot screen captures 400 years of the city's history.
  • History, Visually Speaking: Image-heavy special exhibits
  • Permanent Mainstay: The reimagined fourth floor, which gives visitors an interactive exploration of new and historic objects.
  • Women’s Stories: We Rise, a 17-minute film focused on women's suffrage, features Meryl Streep on narration and Alicia Keys' vocals and songwriting on the track "We Are Here."
  • Eye Catchers: Picasso’s stage curtain for Le Tricorne ballet and the ceiling mural from Keith Haring's Pop Shop
  • Future History-Makers: DiMenna Children's History Museum, with games and interactive exhibits
  • Pro Tip: Catch top historians and public figures many weeknights as part of the museum's lecture series. Separate tickets are required, but past recordings are available for free online.
  • Make it a Date: Storico a cafe on the first floor, offers cocktails and inventive lunch and dinner menus.
  • Shop History: Shop your way through history in the award-winning store.
