What You'll Get
Sailing around the world requires a buoyant vessel, a waterproof map, and interning wind gusts that will work for free. Learn how to ration out labor to nature with today's Groupon: for $99, you get a one-day sailing course at New York Sailing School in New Rochelle (a $200 value). Classes are from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The ASA-certified instructors at New York Sailing impart wind-harnessing knowledge to aspiring sailors during a hands-on single-day lesson. Students spend the first hour of the sailing course in a classroom before boarding a 23-foot Sonar sailboat for an afternoon voyage. Once on board, four students rotate duties every 20 minutes to practice manning the jib, lifting the main sail, steering the tiller, scribbling chart work, and pausing to enjoy scenic views of shorelines and wave back to deliriously friendly seas. The Sonar carves out 11.5 feet of cockpit space complete with deep seats to avoid swinging booms and to provide oceans of legroom for students to move about freely.
Sails capture gusts in the beautiful Long Island Sound, a waterway with limited commercial traffic that allows sailors to navigate buoys, rocks, rights of way, currents, and jet skis driven by Grendels. New York Sailing has been in business since 1968, and its commitment to improvement and convenience surfaces with online enrollment and a plethora of dates on the class schedule
