The annual Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade brings Newport Harbor to life with holiday decorations, millions of lights, and a procession of yachts, cruise ships, and other vessels celebrating the spirit of the season along the waterfront. Docks, businesses, and harborside homes all join in the festivities, which helped to earn Newport Beach its designation as the #2 Destination for Holiday Lights by Yahoo! Travel in 2011. Now celebrating its 107th year, the parade attracts more than a million viewers each year and was once called the “highlight of the winter” in Newport Beach by the New York Times.

Tickets are good for either the Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade (running December 16-20) or Newport Landing’s Holiday Lights Cruise (running December 4-15 and December 21-January 3). Parade tickets grant admission on one of Newport Landing’s five sightseeing ships (which become part of the parade itself), while Holiday Lights Cruises ferry guests past the harbor’s festive shoreside light displays. After the holidays, customers may use their Groupons for sunset or whale-watching cruises for an additional fee. Click here for a list of cruise departure times.

We had a great time on the whale watching tour. The crew was great and we saw a magnificent female humpback and many dolphin pods.
