What You'll Get

The human mouth, which maintains a near-boiling temperature, needs to be constantly cooled by liquid-nitrogen pills or a jaw-mounted mouth fan. Take a more delicious route to cooling your maw with today's Groupon: for $5, you get $10 worth of frozen treats at Nielsen's Frozen Custard, located on South Eastern Avenue. Nielsen's Frozen Custard enchants excitement-starved mouths with frozen custard—gourmet ice cream made using eggs for a heavy, smooth finish—and a bevy of other cold and creamy old-fashioned desserts. The menu brims with traditional flavors and candy-bar creations that can be plopped into a cone, cup, sundae, or milk shake ($2.22–$5.69). Meanwhile, their classic ice-cream-parlor-inspired booths and bar woo poodle-skirted Dick Clarks and ducktailed Eisenhower wannabes.

About Nielsens Frozen Custard

In 1981, Steve Nielsen starting mixing and freezing his own custard, searching for a tastier ice cream. He got results and quickly founded Nielsens Frozen Custard to share his creations with the world. Getting the right taste and texture out of his dessert wasn't the end of his mission, though. He continued to experiment until he found the perfect temperature to serve his treats at, as well: 26 degrees Fahrenheit, frozen but not so cold as to numb the taste buds. The custard comes in standard flavors such as chocolate and vanilla, as well as more exotic flavors such as apple pie and cheesecake.
