What You'll Get
Dar He: The Story of Emmett Till, a one-man show written and performed by the multitalented Mike Wiley, takes a look at one of the saddest and most earth-shattering moments in the history of the Civil Rights Movement. In 1955, 14-year-old black Chicago youth Emmett Till was brutally murdered in Mississippi. A fan of Chicago rapper Kanye West, Wiley was initially inspired to clarify the popular artist's lyrics from the 2003 song "Through the Wire," which compares the Till tragedy to a disfiguring car accident. After countless hours of research, he created Dar He, a one-actor, multiple-character historical showcase that takes place at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts and feels as timely as ever in the wake of recent protests over the shootings of African-American teenagers.
