Beginning at The Bunkhouse at Northeast Mountaineering, novice or experienced rappellers take 30 minutes to be outfitted with necessary rappelling equipment, watch an introductory video and learn to repel before taking a 25-minute drive into Crawford Notch of the White Mountains. From there, a half-mile walk lead groups to a 100-plus-foot waterfall, where they’ll have ample time to rappel the picturesque cascade up to three times. To ensure safety, participants have the option of walking down at any point along the waterfall. Monday through Thursday adventures meet at 10 a.m. and return around 3 p.m. Friday through Sunday, morning sessions meet at 8 a.m. and return around 1 p.m., and afternoon sessions meet at 1 p.m. and return around 6 p.m.
It seemed inevitable that the owners would find Northeast Mountaineering, as both grew up in central Massachusetts and both have ascended an array of local and faraway mountains, including Denali. With years of experience, Northeast Mountaineering's certified guides share their passion for the outdoors with pupils during rock, ice, and alpine climbing and outdoor courses. Operating in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, the guides at NEM offer international climbing and trekking adventures in Ecuador, Nepal and more. With certified wilderness and medical training, each guide is dedicated to safe climbing techniques, which they share with participants during courses that are tailored to all ages and skill levels.
