Actors often make fine lawyers, as their ability to memorize lengthy scripts lends itself to acing law-school exams and making jurors swoon with courtroom monologues from Law and Order. Catch these talented individuals before they switch professions with today’s GrouponLive deal: for $67, you get a three-play Anytime Flex Pass, which includes tickets to three shows on any day of the week, to Northlight Theatre in Skokie (a $137 value). Flex Pass holders can choose their plays and dates up to 24 hours prior to each show time. This pass can be used on multiple visits throughout the season or for three tickets to the same show. This season’s shows include:
• Snapshots, playing September 16–October 23
• Season’s Greetings, playing November 11–December 18
• Black Pearl Sings!, playing January 13–February 19
• Ten Chimneys, playing March 9–April 15
• [title of show], playing May 4–June 10
A celestial beacon in the world of local and independent theater, Northlight Theatre has illuminated more than 160 productions in its 37-year history and will add five main-stage productions to that list in the coming year. The fall season kicks off with Snapshots, an immaculately framed comedy from the creator of Wicked that traces the struggles of a middle-aged couple as they try to make sense of life and vexing iPhone photo apps. Directed by the theater’s artistic director BJ Jones, Season’s Greetings sends theatergoers into the holidays with a hilarious take on how adults act when their indiscretions are exposed under the harsh yuletide lights. A capella meets Americana in Black Pearl Sings!, which rings in the New Year with the Depression-era story of an incarcerated musician and a song collector’s attempts to let her melodies soar free. BJ Jones returns to the helm for a comic look at the private lives of Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne in Ten Chimneys, before the last play, [title of show], rounds off the season. Centered around a group of friends writing a musical about writing a musical, [title of show] is a love letter to the theater left undelivered because its starving-artist protagonists couldn’t afford the postage.
Northlight Theatre's 342-seat production space promises an intimate affair every night, with the farthest seat merely 10 rows from the stage. True to their mission of encouraging compassion, the nonprofit theater offers complimentary parking to ensure that audiences don’t take out any parking-meter frustrations on the actors.
Flex Pass attendance is subject to ticket availability. Children younger than 7 are not admitted to main-stage productions.
