What You'll Get
Orson Welles is universally regarded as a cinematic genius -- a tireless auteur who wrote, directed, produced and acted in some of the 20th century's most innovative and daring films, from Citizen Kane to The Third Man and Touch of Evil. Despite his critical success, much of Welles' career was defined by battles with studio executives for creative control of his work, resulting in numerous films that were completed or edited by others after Welles was fired from the set. In honor of what would've been Welles' 100th birthday, the Northwest Film Center is screening some of his most lauded masterpieces at the Portland Art Museum's Whitsell Auditorium, alongside disputed, lesser-known works that nonetheless showcase the embattled icon's immediately recognizable visual style.
