Archaeologists examine ancient pottery to identify a culture’s preferred cooking methods and to determine which of its members was the World’s Greatest Dad. Make timeless memories with today’s Groupon: for $35, you get participation for two in the Dinner Set: Reset class at Not Made in China Pottery Studio (a $75 value). The approximately two-hour class includes equipment and materials for each pair of students to produce the following dinnerware items:
- Two plates
- Two bowls
- Two cups
- Two condiment dishes</p>
Not Made in China Pottery Studio molds malleable minds with instructive, hands-on pottery classes. Depleted armies of dinnerware are made whole again in the Dinner Set: Reset class, in which pairs of students can bring plates, bowls, cups, and condiment dishes from home to re-create, or they can pattern new tableware from templates available in the studio. Classrooms are stocked with all necessary clay, wheels, and tools to transform amorphous blobs into useful shapes, such as a scale replica of the Roman Colosseum. Over approximately 2–2.5 hours, instructors help students develop techniques for blending clay coils into one-of-a-kind plates, bowls, condiment dishes, and cups, complete with ergonomic handles custom-fit to accommodate extra thumbs or thirsty finger puppets. Students are encouraged to sport clothes and shoes that can be dirtied.
