The menu at Notaro is touched with the romance of northern Italy. Specialties such as handmade gnocchi and tender filet-mignon carpaccio make it easy to imagine that you've been transported to a Venetian trattoria or a dining room in Milan. Chefs carry on the culinary tour as they simmer fresh seafood in white wine, grill juicy steaks, and cut fresh pasta into fettuccini.
Notaro's ambience echoes the same feel as its menu. Classical music plays softly in the background and a fireplace flickers with pleasing warmth. The kitchen is located a level below the dining room, reducing potential noise so it's easy to carry on an intimate conversation or filibuster in the dining room uninterrupted.
Great food, amazing service. Went for my husband's birthday, which we didn't announce in advance. The waiter must have overheard us, and to our surprise a beautiful dessert was brought to us, with candle lit and the waiters singing. So thoughtful! We will be back soon!

The food was plentiful and delicious. The waiter made accommodations for me and was terrific. The tiramisu was awesome. It's Second Avenue's best kept secret--a neighborhood gem! I will definitely return. :-)
