I drive a 1999 Hyundai Sonata with 94,000 miles on it. I've heard it said that older cars shouldn't get synthetic oil changes. Something about the lubricant weakening older rubber parts or something. Is this true?

That is totally false. Synthetic oil is just like conventional oil. The difference is that it doesn't break down as fast. But keep in mind it does retain the same contaminants. Very good question.
