Q:

I realize I have to wait for the card to visit the museum with it; however, do I also need to wait for the card to use the reciprocity deals?

Lorin S.  asked on  Dec 28, 2012

A:

Yes, you will have to wait for your cards before you can visit reciprocal organizations.

Q:

My wife and I are grandparents with 12 grandkids in the Bay Area. Do we have to name/pick four specific grandkids for the four passes? Or can we bring up to four of any of our grandkids each visit? (We would likely only take one or two grandkids per visit).

Richard B.  asked on  Dec 28, 2012

A:

You don't have to name the children/grandchildren - you can bring any four with you on your visit.

Q:

I just want to make sure I understand this deal. It is active as soon as you buy? What if you are giving this for a gift? We are expecting and won't be able to use till late spring time early summer so really only able to use half the year. Is there a way to purchase since we would be new members but not have it active till April or May?

Lindsey H.  asked on  Dec 28, 2012

A:

Once you've purchased the deal you'll have to wait three weeks for your new membership cards. After you receive your cards, you can then visit the Zoo. Membership cards will have an expiration date of January 31, 2014. Unfortunately, activation cannot be delayed. There is a 'Buy for a friend' link to purchase as a gift for friends and family - be sure to have their information handy before starting the process.

Contact our membership office to update your information after you receive your cards in 3 weeks. We'll be happy to help!

Q:

are the guest passes for rides or for zoo admission?

Julia S.  asked on  Dec 28, 2012

A:

You'll receive a one-time use guest pass that is good for 2 adults and 2 children on one visit PLUS you'll also receive eight one-time use ride passes that you can use during the year of family fun. The ride passes can't be used on the Sky Ride.

Q:

Hi, if someone had a San Francisco zoo membership (last year), can they buy this? Because with their sf pass they couldn't get in the Oakland zoo with the sf pass, so please clarify that, thanks

Alexandria M.  asked on  Dec 28, 2012

A:

Alexandria - we always suggest that you support your local Zoo! With that being said, since you've never been a member of our Zoo, you are eligible for this offer! Welcome!

Q:

Are you only eligible for this offer if you've never been a member of the Oakland Zoo? Or, are you eligible if you were a member in the past and wish to become a member again? Thanks

Jeffrey P.  asked on  Dec 27, 2012

A:

Only new members that have never been members of the Zoo are eligible. Lapsed members receive special offers throughout the year.

Q:

HI, if we can only enter the zoo with the member cards, and the member cards don't arrive until 3 weeks later after purchase, this means the membership period is really only 11+ months, not 1 year, right?

Lotus L.  asked on  Dec 27, 2012

A:

Once you purchase you'll receive cards that will expire on January 31, 2014. We estimate that you'll receive your new cards in three weeks - so you'll actually bet a year plus roughly one week of use. The Janaury 2, 2013 expiration date is for the actual Groupon offer run and not the expiration date of your membership.

Q:

When I purchase this deal I did not include two adults - I accidently put my name in for both adults. Is there a way to change one pass to put my husband's name instead of only mine?

Chanee F.  asked on  Dec 27, 2012

A:

The best (and easiest) way would be to contact our office once you’ve received your new cards so that we can make the change and issue a card for your husband.
