Bistros are remarkable in that they somehow manage to be both fancy and casual at the same time, much like a necktie with Taz on it. Feel gussied up without too much fuss with today's Groupon for eclectic fare at Oakwood Bistro. Choose between two options:
- For $15, you get $30 worth of dinner fare.
- For $7, you get $15 worth of lunch fare.
Ryan Soule, Oakwood Bistro's chef and owner, has worked in kitchens across the country and uses his accrued knowledge of regional cuisine to create an eclectic menu stocked with both homegrown and transatlantic dishes. Highly portable sandwich offerings include the savory salmon BLT ($9.99) and the beer-braised Bell's burger ($8.99). More American than a Dutch oven, the house specialty entrees include domestically hooked, pretzel-crusted Great Lakes whitefish ($17.99) and a potato-paired New York strip ($25.99). Oakwood Bistro looks to Italy for a variety of vegetarian and gluten-free options. For $4, the chef will transfer toppings from any specialty pizza onto a gluten-free crust using a miniature crane. The full bar stocks enough microbrewed beer, wine by the glass ($5–$8.25), and house cocktails to make other bistros beige with jealousy. Oakwood Bistro's ambience is relaxed and quirky with a fisherman's cache of fishing kitsch lining its walls, subtly reminding diners of the anthropomorphized oars and tackle box that reeled in their supper.
Reviews
Oakwood Bistro has been featured in the Kalamazoo Gazette and four Yelpers give it a 4.5 star average:
- The lettuce wraps provided unexpected joy. The chicken was flavorful and the wraps, which one filled with coconut curry noodles, bean sprouts, shredded carrots and red onions, were light but had bold flavors. – William R. Wood, Kalamazoo Gazette
- Excellent food, excellent service. You can order pretty much anything on the menu and you'll be happy. The rueben [sic] is a delight! – Stephanie B., Yelp
