The polished chrome facade, vintage yellow sign, and giant rooftop coffee cup mark Oasis Diner t a charmingly retro diner. But don't mistake this for one of those "new retro" places that mimic the old school with design-by-committee decor. On the contrary, Oasis is as authentic as hearing loss from an Elvis concert. The diner was built in 1954 in Signac, New Jersey and shipped by railroad to Indiana . After the diner closed in 2008 and fell into disrepair, the new owners spent three years planning and restoring the Plainfield landmark back to its original appearance. The diner was relocated 4-miles from its original location and reopened in November, 2014.
Even more impressive than that, however, is what's cooking at Oasis today. The kitchen makes everything from scratch, from the hand-breaded pork loin sandwiches to the fruit pies and beignets. This isn't your grandma's diner food—though it could be, if that's what you want. In addition to biscuits, build-your-own omelets, and corned beef sandwiches, the chefs are happy to whip up any off-the-menu request so long as they have the ingredients.
