Within the Indianapolis Propylaeum, a well-manicured Victorian clubhouse and historic landmark built in 1890, Occasions Divine’s mystery-dinner soirées transport diners into the midst of a classic whodunit. Peckish detectives hone sleuthing skills in one of four themed meals, solving a post-Christmas mystery at Holiday Murder at the Propylaeum, a pair of country-club killings at Murder at the Propylaeum and Murder at the Propylaeum BBQ, and a desert-island enigma at May-Day, The Plane is Going Down. Evenings commence at 6 p.m. with tours of the historic home, giving eyes a chance to feast upon period-accurate décor enhanced by modern renovation and glow-in-the-dark area rugs. Dinner begins at 7 p.m., with appetizers heralding the start of a many-plattered menu’s processional. While actors infiltrate the crowd to lead guests toward the killer’s identity, platefuls of pasta, fish, chicken, and beef, paired with artfully matched grape libations, reenact each drama on the plate. Evenings end on a well-timed sweet note as diners savor dessert and the taste of victory upon solving the crime and releasing dates from citizen’s arrest.
Because event seating is limited to 125 people, reservations are required; check the website for available dates. More dates may be added.
When Occasions Divine planted its roots in a trio of historic locales, the event-hosting company made sure to keep most of the buildings' original décor and architecture intact while adding modern kitchens and other amenities. The staff orchestrates an ever-changing combination of themed dinners, wine and beer pairings, multiple-course meals, performances, and art classes.
