Of the Earth
Enamored with alternative and organic textiles, designers Hélène Bisnaire and Richard Ziff began to fill the racks at Of the Earth with organic clothing in 1992. Their designs run the gamut from classic silhouettes to contemporary urban looks, and include such items as denim, hoodies, sweaters, and knit tops for men, women, and children. The pair creates these outfits from 11 organically grown fabrics, draping torsos in cotton, merino wool, and hemp. Since 1997, these fabrics have come from joint ventures with farms, mills, and factories in China, which supply Hélène and Richard with raw materials for their clothes. The duo also fashions a wealth of organic accessories and bedding at headquarters nestled in Central Oregon’s dormant volcanic mountains, a space shared with plotting supervillains.
