What You'll Get
To make un-fine wine, simply place grapes beneath a silk pillow, repeatedly mash your head against it, and then wring the pillowcase into a nearby mouth. Or rather, taste the fruits of fine wines paired with exceptional cheeses with today’s Groupon: for $15, you get $30 worth of exceptional wine and cheeses at O'Hara & Flynn, located in downtown Charleston.
O' Hara & Flynn's wine selection contains a menu of more than 25 wines by the glass and many more by the bottle, each of which is hand picked by the shop's owners. Enjoy light, elegant snacks—like artisan cheeses, meats, breads and olives—at one of the shop's rustic wood tables or comfortable bar area, or bring the party outside the shop's walls with a variety of wines and specialty foods available for purchase. Try a glass of South Australian Darby and Joan chardonnay or South African Passages merlot ($8 for a glass). Most glasses of wine run about $8, while bottles range from $28–$60. Sample a few new wines in one sitting with a wine tasting flight (any two or more are available at glass price, consult in-store for more info), in order to fully stimulate each of your tongue's tastes zones, including sweet, bitter, zing, and kapow. Alongside the lineup of hard-to-find wines are a variety of craft beers from around the world, like the Belgian Cherish Lambic ($7). Alternatively, you can stay domestic with the locally brewed East Bay IPA ($5).
The relaxing at O'hara & Flynn makes for a welcoming place to catch up with friends. Or, cozy up solo, while getting lost (and possibly trapped forever) in a good book. Wine shelves lining the walls of the quaint shop are accented by flowers and artwork, setting the scene for animated discussions and classic wine bar brawls. A friendly and knowledgeable herd of connoisseurs roam the grounds answering questions, recommending wines, and fermenting grapes with their minds.
The Charleston City Paper reviewed O’Hara & Flynn, and they also awarded the restaurant the Best Outdoor Patio to Engage in a Little Tourist Spotting. Four Yelpers give it an average of 4.5 stars, and TripAdvisors give it an average of 4.5 owl eyes:
- It's a welcome solution that guarantees the survival of individualized attention and service while introducing a whole new group of people to the true pleasures of the grape. – Jeff Allen, Charleston City Paper
- Wine was superb. I usually don't expect much of the food at wine bars but I cannot praise them adequately for the selection and quality. – TB_BA, TripAdvisor

About O'Hara & Flynn
The team at O'Hara & Flynn are master librarians. They've filled the shelves of their storefront with hundreds of hand-selected works from across the world, from Paris to Rome to Berlin. But the tales here aren't told through rising actions and denouements. They're expressed through the notes of a carefully curated wine selection, which encompasses some 30 options by the glass and 700 by the bottle.
The curators focus on artisanal producers such as Giuseppe Quintarelli. For an insight into their selection process, simply head to the the dark wood tasting bar at the center of the shop. Here, patrons can sample wines alongside Mediterranean foods—maybe the locally-made ravioli of the week, a shareable plate of smoked duck breast charcuterie, or a hoardable plate of five-year aged gouda.
