Young people who are emerging from incarceration or high-risk environments need tools such as job skills and places where they can express themselves in order to achieve long-term success. Old Skool Café is a youth-led supper club that provides young people with opportunities to gain meaningful employment experiences and a platform where they can express themselves before a public audience in a safe, positive environment.
The café houses a 1940s-style supper club that employs at-risk and previously incarcerated youth ages 16–24 as apprentices in the areas of restaurant management and entertainment. Apprenticeships at Old Skool Café provide real responsibility, mentorship, and job skills in positions such as chef, wait staff, talent scout, stage manager, and public-relations director. Old Skool Café is in the process of building a theatrical stage where young people will be able to plan, direct, and perform for café patrons in productions such as poetry slams, musical performances, and other special events. As the product of expertise from an electrician, stage designer, and construction worker, the stage will feature quality lighting and sound systems to provide performers with a thoroughly professional setting. Though construction has already begun, Old Skool Café needs additional funding in order to complete the project.
Join G-Team and donate $10 to help Old Skool Café finish building its theatrical stage. If G-Team members raise $500, Old Skool Café's team, including an electrician, stage designer, and construction worker, can complete the construction of the stage. All additional donations will go toward curtains, lighting, and sound equipment.
