About Olde Burnside Brewing
Olde Burnside Brewing was started by the McClellan family in October of 2000. For 17 years they have been making solid handcrafted and well balanced flavorful ales. Olde Burnside is particularly known as the brewery the brews the one and only Ten Penny Amber Scottish ale which is a local Hartford area staple at bars and restaurants. Before the brewery was started, the building was the location Burnside Ice Company that was in business from (1911-2016). The property has their own proprietary underground artesian water source that is naturally filtered (think underground spring). All the water is very pure and we feel it is very important in what makes the beers we brew so flavorful.
*Ten Penny Ale (ABV 5.6%): The brewery staple light Scottish Amber ale. It's what drives the brewery; it's very well balanced. The flavor has a malty backbone with a caramel smokiness that has a unique flavor all it's own.
*Dirty Penny (ABV 5.0%): Due to the lower ABV we like to call it "the lightest-dark beer around". It's a black and tan style that we brew two separate beers (Ten Penny and a stout) and then ferment them together. Similar to a porter, it has hints of coffee and chocolate in its flavor profile.
*PennyWeiz (ABV 5.2%): Our lightest offering, it's very thirst quenching on the hot days of summer. It's a citrus tea american Belgian style ale, with a citrus aroma complemented by a slight tea flavor in the finish.
*Hop't Scot (ABV 6.0%): Our new and improved American IPA is quintuple hopped (yes, that's 5 different hops). They all complement one another, so it gives it a well balanced bitterness with a citrus-like aroma in the finish.
