Olive Oil Marketplace
Oil has long been used by chefs as a healthy, flavorful ingredient for cooking and lubricating android sous chefs. In 2011, Tim and Julie Meeks joined the movement and opened Olive Oil Marketplace in downtown Alton. Inspired by their own love of cooking, the pair filled the shop's shelves with bottles of extra virgin olive oil from around the world.
Today, more than 25 flavored oils line the shop's cherry-wood cabinets, including bottles imported from Morocco, Egypt, Spain, Italy, and Greece. Some of the oils are traditional, and others are infused with such natural flavors as roasted garlic, Italian herb, or lemon pepper. Tim and Julie's marketplace also carries more than 25 flavored balsamic vinegars, all of which hail from Modena, Italy. Amongst the oils and vinegars, the shop also features seasonings, handmade pastas, gourmet coffee, and kitchen and grilling gadgets.
