A Chat with Olive Yoga
What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition?
We offer amazing yoga classes with verbal and physical adjustments to ensure proper alignment. Olive Yoga is a premiere yoga studio that is 1800 sq feet of great energy with beautiful refinished original hard wood floors and brick walls to warm the room with great light from large windows and high ceilings! We also have showers and a complimentary tea bar! There is free two hour parking off of Third street at City Place Parking between Long Beach Blvd and Pine Ave.
Exercise is challenging. How do you keep clients motivated and engaged?
Olive Yoga keeps students motivated by offering modifications and challenges. The expertise of the instructors allows each student to understand that they are being taught yoga in a safe way. Laughter and community is built through the connections made in and out of class. All aspects of yoga are taught instead of just the physical asana. Each student is acknowledged in class and out of class. There is minimum 15 minutes before another class begins so students can commune in the lobby and have a tea and talk to each other about yoga. There is a yoga library and teachers take time to get to know their students. Elizabeth Olive is a true teacher and understands that learning happens when connections are made.
What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
I have worked for many studios where there is minimal connection to students and more focus on the teachers practice then the students. I have traveled the world and country and have dreamed of owning my own studio for many years. I have been a high school English teacher since 1998 and swim coach since 1989. I have lost my teaching job four years in a row due to budget cuts. I have seen the stress of students and teachers increase greatly in the last several years. My yoga practice has been my saving grace during the last several years of hardships. My motivation to open Olive Yoga was to share the path with as many people as I can to help the community I live in to become more peaceful, balanced and aware of the Eight Limb Path.
What do you love most about your job?
Sharing the PATH! I love connecting with people and seeing the joy yoga brings to their lives!
