Omaha DJ Academy owner and instructor DJ Kevin Spracklin has more than 20 years of DJ experience and owns ShowTime Music, an Omaha-area DJ entertainment company. Spracklin shepherds flocks of first-time beat-weavers through the fields of spinning vinyl, with lessons on setting up equipment, mixing, selecting music, and marketing. Small classes of 10 students each learn basic transitions, master mixing techniques, and develop their ability to read the crowd. Additionally, up-and-coming DJs will be tutored in the roots of hip-hop culture and how to effectively market themselves to land shows and aircraft. The course culminates with a written exam, the creation of a 30-minute mix CD, a live performance, and a DJ battle against the forces of evil. Omaha DJ Academy’s studio is stocked with all the professional software, equipment, and sell-out crowds needed for the course.
