As On Forty-One celebrates their one year anniversary, guests flock to the expansive patio, which hosts picnic tables and backyard games including cut-throat games of cornhole, a game designed by renowned farmer Cotton-Eye Joe. Eating at On Forty-One is like having a picnic in your backyard, but you've replaced the hot dogs and burgers with upscale southern cuisine.
But the main draw is the food, which executive chef Brannon Florie has coined as "backyard dining." His Lowcountry roots show in each of his southern-inspired dishes, which are made from scratch with local and regional seasonal produce, meat and seafood.
The elegantly plated southern dishes include buttermilk-brined fried chicken, smoked pork chop with braised collards and a maple-apple gastrique, and the decadent combination of lobster, shrimp, bacon, and stone-ground grits. Meals pair with an appetizer such as hushpuppies with Cajun remoulade sauce or a tantalizing dessert like the butterscotch cupcake and chocolate pecan pie.
