About One Strange Bird
When she isn't teaching classes in art foundations at Columbia College, Nicole Northway gives lessons in printmaking, painting, and other artistic mediums at her own boutique and art center, One Strange Bird. Inside a brightly decorated studio, a team of teaching artists that includes metalsmith Maia Leppo and printmaker Nicolette Ross leads children's lessons and BYOB classes for adults in their respective fields of expertise. As students of all ages paint canvases, string beads onto jewelry, and ponder the spelling of the word textiles, guests can peruse One Strange Bird's store stocked with one-of-a-kind gifts such as handmade soap and glass terrariums. The studio also serves as an art gallery by hosting Chicago-based artists' exhibits.
