Social problems such as economic and familial hardship can prevent at-risk students from fulfilling their academic potential and escaping the cycle of poverty. Opportunity Impact engages underserved youths through academic programs, enrichment projects, and a recreational support network to prepare them for the unique challenges they face while navigating high school. Every year, 15 to 20 children are selected for a five-year comprehensive program that meets throughout grades four through nine, wherein they develop academic and personal skills, receive individualized case management, and participate in recreation and tutoring, facilitating day-to-day and long-term achievements.
This summer, Opportunity Impact is scheduled to move into a parks and recreation center that features tennis and basketball courts as well as ample outdoor space. The organization still needs basic sports equipment, including balls, gear, and bats, for a life-skills program that would help participants develop cooperation, strategy building, and problem-solving skills through organized team sports. This holistic approach builds on students' ability to tackle daily challenges by highlighting individual assets and rebuilding confidence. The network of support they build out of their experiences with Opportunity Impact can help at-risk youths to succeed in school and fully engage with their communities as adults.
Join G-Team and donate $10 to help establish a recreational support network for underserved school children, with donations up to $2,500 matched by popchips. If G-Team members raise $500, Opportunity Impact will be able to provide new sports equipment for a life-skills program for youths living in pubic housing. Any additional money raised will go toward funding program supplies for the students. G-Team members will have a chance to vote on what type of sports equipment Opportunity Impact purchases with the donations in an online survey. G-Team members can also use their redemption vouchers to access a coupon for popchips on or after March 20, 2011.
Unlike traditional Groupon deals, G-Team campaigns typically don't offer you a "discount" or "savings." So "buyer" beware—when you click "Buy" to donate your time or money to a worthwhile G-Team cause, the only discount you may receive is 100% off free, priceless karma. Read more about G-Team.
