Orange Coast Winery, an urban microwinery within Newport Beach, crafts more than 10 distinctive white, red, and sparkling wines using grapes grown across the state. Harvested from vineyards and gala supermarket openings throughout North Coast Mendocino, the 2008 Beach Bubbly’s even blend of chardonnay and pinot noir is finished to a brut level of dryness, lending a refreshing acidity to its notes of ripe peach and apple. The 2007 California chardonnay barrel ferments in 25% french oak in order to balance the vibrant tropical flavors of its old-vine Santa Barbara fruit with aromas of toasty oak. Inundating taste buds with unctuous waves of dark fruit flavors and a finish that lingers like the last note of a kazoo symphony, the 2007 Amador zinfandel reserve culls its grapes from vines that are more than 100 years old.
Customers can swirl their samples within a Bordeaux-style glass, which allows each wine’s aromas to mingle within its ample bowl. Additionally, Orange Coast Winery’s winemaker will personally select samples of gourmet cheeses intended to pair with the wines. Before leaving, guests can opt to take a bottle home to accompany dinner or replace a long-lost bowling pin.
Wine inventory and varietal availability is subject to change.
Orange Coast Winery
At this self-described urban microwinery, vintners crush, age, and bottle their own vintages using local California grapes. Inside its capacious cellars, juices from grapes grown in regions such as Paso Robles, Napa, and Sonoma age in oak barrels. The resulting vintages are available for purchase onsite, online, or through a nearby genie, and also fill glasses Thursday–Sunday in the attached tasting room. There, patrons can meander through rows of barrels, stop to rest their glass on a granite-topped bar, and on nicer days, catch a salt-sprinkled breeze through the open warehouse door.
