What You'll Get
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction, which is why every time a human attempts to fly, a bird attempts to drive a stick shift. Engage in one of the primary mandates of physics with today's Groupon: for $49, you get a five-hour Discover Hang Gliding Experience introductory lesson at Oregon Hang Gliding School in Corvallis (a $130 value).
From the safety of solid ground, the experienced instructors at Oregon Hang Gliding School walk prospective fliers through the ins and outs of controlling a hang glider. Let by a seasoned flier, students begin their journey in an interactive classroom-style lesson, covering all the basics of artificial levitation, including experience on analog and electric real-time simulators and a quick game of Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board. Weather permitting, students then traverse into the great not-indoors to assist in setting up a real glider before donning the harness to practice keeping upright on a flat stretch of ground (if necessary, this part of the lesson can take place indoors). If all goes well, gliders may get the instructor's permission to embark down sloped ground, getting one step closer to experiencing flight and finally gaining the upper hand against water-skiing chickens.

About Oregon Hang Gliding School
A USHPA-certified advanced and tandem instructor, John of Oregon Hang Gliding School has taken to the skies on hang gliders since 1990 and taught the sport to newcomers since 1997. He also advises the curriculum for a university engineering program laying out pointers in a systematic way, and discouraging the use of protractors as weapons. Under John’s guidance, students begin with introductory lessons and ground school before advancing along the path to earning individual pilot ratings.
