Ould Newbury Golf Club
Whether it's years, dollars, or golf balls squeezed into Uncle Jimbo's mouth, 100 of anything is a lot. Ould Newbury Golf Club knows this for a fact: the club was established on Labor Day in 1916. A full century of golf in scenic Newbury was made possible when a group of men leased 60 acres of land from Governor Dummer Academy. The rest, as they say, is history.
At 3,115 yards from the tips, this nine-hole North Shore gem has given countless players trouble over the past 100 or so years, only to quell frustrations with spectacular views of the Great Salt Marsh. The fourth hole is the course's most difficult, but the ninth hole is its most memorable; fewer than 10 holes-in-one have been documented here, even though it's just a par three. All golfers can take a crack at Ould Newbury's challenges during the week, but on the weekends they must be accompanied by members, owing to the course's semi-private status.
