What You'll Get

The Issue: Limited Opportunities for Cultural Education

Although exposure to cultural activities can help youth develop foundational skills such as critical thinking, creativity, and vocabulary, most schools provide only limited access to these through often ill-funded arts programs. Underserved families have more difficulty supplementing their children’s exposure to art and culture, despite the availability of professional theater, museums, and concert halls, due to limited financial resources and time.

The Campaign: Taking Children to the Brookfield Zoo

If this Grassroots campaign raises $1,210, then Ounce of Prevention Fund can fund bus transportation and fees for special attractions so that 85 low-income students aged 5 and younger from the Educare School and 40 adult chaperones can go on a field trip to the Brookfield Zoo. Each additional $1,210 raised will fund another trip to the zoo.

Through this field trip, participating children will have a chance to learn about new animals, experience the city with their peers and adults, and establish a hands-on connection with creatures at the petting zoo. The trip also grants children access to the dolphin show and the merry-go-round.
