The world may never know how many it really takes to tango (what about the musicians, don’t they count?), but today’s Groupon will answer more basic questions, such as how to move your hips, with four beginning classes at Oxygen Tango for $25 (a $49 value). Beginner classes are available Monday through Thursday from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and are divided into four different, four-week units (Tango 101, 102, 103, and 104). You can take the units in any order, and instructors shift timeslots for the various units each month—making scheduling as flexible as your limbs will soon become.
Oxygen caters specifically to tango newcomers. Instructors, Mitra Martin and Stefan Fabry delight in teaching the muy caliente joys of Latin dance to wide-eyed neophytes with tentative stances and halting steps, and in transforming a tangle of limbs into a seductive embrace atop a pair of smoothly gliding legs. Topics in beginner’s classes include shifting your weight during basic steps, mastering the fun and simple “C-turn” that underlies the basic moves in tango, learning the fundamental rhythms of the music, and the very useful “B-cross.” These first sequences are structured in a logical, systematic way that requires no prior tango experience, so you can confidently bring to class as many left feet as you’d like.
Mitra and Stefan will make sure you laugh and have fun along the way. Both instructors bring extensive experience as dancers and teachers, as well as a passionate belief in the importance of dance. Both have performed tango widely, studied the art form in Argentina and elsewhere, and stay involved with teacher training and performance across the world. The pair shares the philosophy that tango can help students feel more connected with their surroundings and the people around them. Tango is uplifting, improves health, strengthens relationships, and offers pretty much the only socially sanctioned opportunity to stick a rose between your teeth. So go ahead and elegantly yet powerfully sweep that special someone off his or her feet. You can buy also purchase multiples for gifts—it’s probably not possible to buy a gift more romantic.

Two reviewers on Yelp give Oxygen Tango five stars: > * …they’re wonderfully warm people, eager to help anyone who’s interested in learning, in most any way they can. They’re also refreshingly creative and organic! From their fashion sense, to the communal events they coordinate to promote tango and a sense of family, to the very way they explain new moves, it’s pleasant and inviting to learn from them. – Chrissy C. > * This is a great, great tango school led by teachers (Mitra and Stefan) who are serious about their craft but friendly and relaxed in their teaching. Not only will they teach you the tango steps, they will invite you into a warm and creative community of dancers…You couldn’t do better than to get your introduction to tango here. – Paul D.

About Oxygen Tango
Oxygen Tango‘s instructors find joy, discovery, and passion in Argentine Tango, while also educating students to seek joy by delighting others. The venture was founded in 2009 when owners Mitra Martin and Stefan Fabry put their decades-long infatuation with the dance and extensive research into tango instruction to use. The staff and instructors divulge the secrets and techniques of the sultry, improvised dance during classes. This is infused in the curriculum, which gives students of all skill levels a series of progressing goals to drive achievement. On weeknights, they take to the floor offering tips and advice to help students embrace and flow their way through tango steps. Clients are encouraged to participate in the Tango Challenge where students will learn tango movement, music, and culture and unlock their inner tango spirit. The schedule also includes prácticas, or practice sessions, where students may have the opportunity to dance freely with dancers of all levels in an attempt to perfect the intricate footwork and trade their favorite tango idioms.
