What You'll Get
While participating in an urban obstacle race, contestants hone their skills in traversing city streets, skirting around traffic, and escaping the watchful eye of Big Brother. Shape up for urban evasion with today's Groupon to the Oyster Shooter race on Saturday, June 25. Choose from the following options:
- For $20, you get entry to the race for one person (up to a $50 value).
- For $40, you get entry to the race for two people (up to a $100 value).
- For $60, you get entry to the race for three people (up to a $150 value).
Designed as a less stressful version of the Oyster Urban Adventure, the adrenaline-packed Oyster Shooter relay leads racers with brawny bods and street savvy on a 5-mile mission to uncover mysterious challenges around the city in the fastest time possible. Contestants prepare for the race's combination of athletic prowess and brain-stimulating strategy by lacing up sneakers, stretching rock-hard muscles, and flipping on their noggins. Then, clutching a passport containing five checkpoint locations, they'll set off to destinations such as public parks, stadiums, amusement parks, zoos, high-rise buildings, and any other landmark a pop-culture movie monster might invade. Oyster Shooter staff then assign challenges—such as completing an obstacle course, solving puzzles, bowling, deciphering clues, braving a rollycoaster, riding a slip 'n' slide, or tubing—which must be completed before proceeding to the next checkpoint.
Participants are welcome to choose their own course to victory, just as taxpayers are free to decide how much money the IRS deserves. Upon finishing, the top 3 men and women finishers receive awards, and all racers walk away with an Oyster Shooter T-shirt. Peruse previous challenges to get an idea of what the race may entail.
